witchy collage wall

back in october 2023, on the new moon in scorpio, i put together the most gorgeous witchy, gothic collage wall of my dreams. i had plans of putting some kind of art on the wall above my piano and just hadn’t done it yet, when suddenly, as the sun was setting, inspiration struck.

i had been saving artwork for a while, so i gathered it together, grabbed some sticky dots and got to work. below, i will share my process (if you can call it that) and everything i used to achieve this masterpiece.

it’s now february 2024, and i still love it just as much. i sit and admire this wall often and even though it’s no longer spooky season, this collage wall holds a special place in my heart and home. there’s something beautiful to me about “memento mori” and the like. maybe i’m morbid, i dunno. cheers to those fellow witchy, goth girls who love spooky season all year round.

after i’d collected all my favorite photos, i printed them on 4x6 matte photo paper through amazon photos and they arrived in under 48 hours. if you’d like to use the same photos, here’s the folder of all the ones i picked. i had too many to add but i love them all.

the thing i was most anxious about was spacing the photos. most videos i’ve seen on collage walls shows them randomly sticking photos anywhere, but i had a very limited section i wanted to use.

so the first thing i did was measure the wall space and use paper tape to mark it off. it just so happened that the amount of photos i’d chosen for the width lined up perfectly with the section i marked off, but even if it hadn’t, it would’ve been really easy to center them that way.

next, i laid all the photos out onto the floor to decide which order i wanted them to be in. this was a necessary step for me because i got to see how all the colors and patterns interacted, which made it a lot easier to space the colors out more. i highly recommend taking a picture once it’s in the order you want it! this came in handy when we lost track putting them on the wall.

once the order looked good, i took these double-sided adhesive dots and added one to each side in opposite corners (bottom left, top right) on the back of each photo. i kept them on the floor and just put them right side down while we added them to the wall so we didn’t lose track of the pattern. my sister helped me with this!

after we added them all to the wall, we took the paper tape down and that was it! we moved the piano back and redecorated it for spooky season, and it’s been like that ever since!

this project definitely took more planning than hands on work, and once the strategy was in place it was actually super easy. i hope this helps!
